Earlier this year in January, North Carolina GOP state Rep. Larry Pittman openly called for publicly hanging abortion providers, proving just how fanatical Republicans are in their anti-abortion stance. Pittman is now making headlines again for attacking Planned Parenthood and calling for the organization’s utter destruction.

In response to an email from Planned Parenthood pleading with lawmakers not to throw women’s health under the bus through massive budget cuts, Pittman refused to be moved, calling for abolishing Planned Parenthood and referred to it as a “murder for hire” organization.

⁠”[Planned Parenthood] is a murderous organization…getting wealthy on murder for hire. It deals out nothing but deception, death, personal devastation, and moral degradation. Never will I agree to give that bloody, indecent, immoral organization one penny. I will not be satisfied until it is outlawed.”

Planned Parenthood, of course, doesn’t make a whole lot of money on abortions considering the procedure makes up only 3% of the total services performed by the organization. 

Clearly, Pittman hates women’s health and his remarks not only prove that Republicans have a deep seated hatred for a woman’s right to choose, they prove that the only goal Republicans have is to completely abolish women’s health services. Planned Parenthood does far more for women than provide abortion services. If Republicans succeed in abolishing the organization, millions of women will be deprived of the care they need to prevent and treat cancer, prenatal care that keeps pregnant women and babies healthy, and contraception services that actually prevent the need for abortions in the first place. Killing Planned Parenthood puts millions of lives at risk every single year and could actually increase abortions. And since abortions would have to be done illegally, that’s even more death that could have been prevented.

But Pittman, like many other Republicans and anti-abortion fanatics, seem to think that women are incapable of choosing to have an abortion, that it must be Planned Parenthood making all the decisions.
