The Democrats have gone on the attack as they fight to keep a Metro East congressional seat they’ve controlled for generations.
A new television ad, financed by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, blasts Republican Jason Plummer for his inherited wealth and targets his position on Medicare.
“Meet Jason Plummer,” the ad’s narrator says. “He’s only had one full-time job, working for his dad, but he’s got millions in the bank.”
It continues: “He wants to be your Congressman, but praised a plan that would essentially end Medicare - making seniors pay thousands more every year for health insurance…all while giving more tax breaks to millionaires like himself. Jason Plummer: Giving tax breaks to his family. Ending Medicare for yours.”
Democrats have successfully used Medicare as an issue to win congressional seats in New York and Arizona. It appears they are doubling down on that strategy in Illinois.
Plummer, a lumber heir whose family controls the Metro East’s R.P. Lumber, is running against Democrat Bill Enyart, a lawyer and former head of the Illinois National Guard. Illinois’ 12 Congressional District, which spans the Metro East, is currently represented by retiring U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello.
